Weight Gain Protein vs Carbohydrates

In a world where most people are working hard to lose weight and stay slim, weight gain is an issue many people are desperately trying to master. The reasons behind wanting to gain weight are different for different people. For some, it may serve as a way to look better while for many others, it may be due to health problems.

The weight gain diets prescribed for a person who is trying to gain weight is most commonly one rich in protein. After conducting some peripheral research, people wanting to gain weight often times begin following a diet rich in protein without the guidance of an expert. These people are seemingly unaware of the fact that protein is primarily a macronutrient only effective in rebuilding and repairing muscles as long as it is well-supplemented with essential supporting nutrients. In order to gain weight, one must realize the health dangers of consuming far too much protein as well as the importance of consuming a balanced diet. Other components, such as carbohydrates, are essential in attempting to gain weight.

Both proteins and carbohydrates play important roles in weight gain. Carbohydrates are the body’s main energy source, while proteins help to build and repair muscles. Because muscle development can only happen if your body has enough energy, it is often times said that carbohydrates are more important than proteins. It has also been proven that if a person’s body is not getting enough carbohydrates, proteins already in the body will get converted into a carbohydrate energy source through a process known as gluconeogenesis. This clearly affects the muscle building process adversely.

In conclusion, making a comparison between proteins and carbohydrates on how to gain weight is not at all an easy task to do. Both nutrients act in supplementary and complementary ways toward each other.
